Shawn Johnson on David Letterman and Ellen

Written by: John

I know that the Olympics is kind of old, but today I came across a couple videos of Shawn Johnson on my 2 favorite talk shows: Ellen and David Letterman. Sometimes when I see Shawn doing her routines that she’s still a little teenage girl inside.

Anna Torv on David Letterman

Written by: John

All those Fringe lovers will like this look back at Anna Torv on David Letterman. I think David Letterman is the best and Anna holds her own. I’m sure we’ll be seeing a lot more of Anna Torv on Dave in the future since it looks like Fringe on Fox is going to be a nice success.

I’m not sure about Anna Torv’s all black outfit, but her accent is great.

Sarah Palin (Tina Fey) and Hillary Clinton (Amy Poehler) on SNL

Written by: John

Saturday Night Live has always done a good job covering the various political figures, but this has to be one of my favorite SNL political skits. Probably because Tina Fey does an incredible job of doing Sarah Palin. In fact, my wife said that she looked like Tina Fey before they’d even tried to do the skit. It was nice to see Amy Poehler do another rendition of Hillary Clinton before Hillary is out of the news for a while.

MTV’s Top Pop Group – The Casting Special

Written by: Rocky

MTV sets out to find the next pop sensation to join these music superstars and Mario Lopez (host of MTV’s “America’s Best Dance Crew”) is taking the hosting reins for the new live music competition series “MTV’s Top Pop Group” which premiered Thursday, September 11 at 10:00 PM ET/PT.

From MTV.com

After an extensive nationwide search, nine amazing groups hit the stage to compete for a $100,000 prize and the coveted title of MTV’s Top Pop Group. With everyone’s favorite host, Mario Lopez, at the helm, the competition is fierce!

Each week, the hopefuls are coached by megastars and supergroups who try to help them perfect their singing, dancing and overall performance skills. Then, the groups perform live in front of a panel of celebrity judges — rapper Taboo, singer Michelle Williams and choreographer Brian Friedman — knowing that one wrong move or off-key note could cause their dreams to come crashing down.

But it’s not just the judges that get a say in who stays and who goes. You — yes, you! — can vote for your favorite pop group! But this power shouldn’t be taken lightly … by casting your vote, dreams become reality and hearts are broken. After tallying the votes, one group is eliminated each week. In the end, the last group standing is crowned MTV’s Top Pop Group!

Heres a look at the casting special:

My Super Sweet 16 Presents: Exiled -Chelsi

Written by: Rocky

I really hope this episode was faked for entertainment purposes, because if not we now have video proof that you can actually spoil a person stupid. It’s not normal for an 18 year old to be so helpless.

Chelsi is the Sweet 16er who threw a Toga Party two years ago. Now she is the next to be exiled. Her family is concerned that she is so spoiled that she will not be able to survive on her own. Which will be happening soon as Chelsi heads off to college to become a microbiologist. Does anyone else find that a scary thought?

Chelsi is exiled to the frozen tundra of the Arctic Circle in Norway.

It would be easy to make fun of Chelsi and her childlike behaviour but I just can’t do it. While Chelsi should have chosen to grow up on her own, it’s her family that have allowed her to remain a child. It’s a little unfair that they expect her to just suddenly be a mature, independant adult now that’s she’s eighteen. Growing up and thinking for yourself takes time and experience. She never had that opportunity and now I’m not sure if Chelsi will be able to do it.

Here is a brief video showing the positive part of the trip for Chelsi.

Sadly, Chelsi did not have a life changing experience. Family members say that she did not change but she is definitely thinking about it. I’ll let the family explain:

What good are rankings?

Written by: David

This year more than any before has led me to wonder what good rankings are? I think most would agree that preseason rankings are pretty much crap because you never know how teams will do with the players they lost, injuries in fall camp, etc. Even the first week or two are a little sketchy because most schools are playing weak teams to try and get off on the right foot.

But really how useful are rankings the rest of the season. A prime example is Kirk Herbstreit’s rankings. He said on national TV that Fresno State was a better team and had the best chance of “busting” into a BCS bowl game than any other non-BCS school. Yet he ranked BYU higher in his AP poll ballot. Call me crazy but if a team is “better” shouldn’t they be ranked higher?

You also have the mess at the end of the season last year with teams losing and moving up in the rankings. Shouldn’t an increase in rank be the result of a good performance on the field. For the most part I think the coaches poll is a little more accurate because they are the ones on the field seeing these teams play, and no one understands their team, and their opponents, better than a good coach. But even their ballots are biased.

I don’t know if there really is a better solution because no human can be completely objective, and no computer can factor in all of the different facets of how good a team really is. But history has shown that the system is flawed. The NCAA has done a good job with the basketball tournament, for the most part. So why is it that they refuse to do something about football? Aren’t they the ones that are supposed to be running college football, not the heads of six of the eleven conferences?

I realize a 64 team tournament is out of the question, but until there is a playoff system of some sort there will never be a legitimate national champion in college football. Unfortunately, people at the NCAA are in bed with too many “college sports lobbyists” to make an objective decision and do what is right for the sport, not just their wallets.
