Where is Cambodia?

Written by: Amy

Howdy folks! Sorry for not having an update last week – football ran over and the DVR recorded 60 Minutes instead of The Amazing Race.

So last night’s episode was fairly boring. The teams had to fly from New Zealand (so bummed I missed that episode!) and fly to Cambodia. We learned that just about none of the teams have a clue about geography. Seriously? They didn’t know where Cambodia was? Astonishing. Also astonishing is the fact that we’re down to 7 teams already. The seasons of this show go by much faster for me than others.

Ken & Tina started out first since they arrived first again last week. These two are doing much better in the race and in their relationship than anyone would have guessed. I climb aboard the KenTina train a little more each week. I actually yelled out, “Awww,” when Tina couldn’t find a small chamber inside the ancient Buddist temple Angkor Wat during the Roadblock. Normally I’m yelling, “What an idiot!” Thankfully her mistake didn’t cost them too much at the finish.

Terence continued to annoy me (and [I'm pretty sure] Sarah) as he whined about her “outrunning him out the gate” every time. Should she slow down and make you feel better about yourself, Terence? The sad thing is, I think she might start to do that in the future. Stand up for yourself, Sarah! I had to giggle when they got pulled over for speeding and Sarah said, “I didn’t think you were a speeder.” Hee. You know the unfinished sentence in her mind went a little something like, “… since you are so freaking slow at racing!” I also derived much pleasure out of their boat breaking down during the Detour. Sadly, they finished in a decent spot – but! – they incurred a 30-minute penalty at the start of the next leg as a result of getting a speeding ticket.

Nick & Starr raced well and Nick only played dirty once that we saw on this leg. Pretending to not having found the small chamber at the Roadblock was only slightly dirty relatively speaking, but I still hate the way they play. Starr’s best line from the episode, “Senór, stop!” I’m not quite sure what language is spoken in Cambodia, but I’m pretty sure it’s not, you know, SPANISH. Ugh. I also hate their smug attitudes in interviews. They’re good overall competitors, though, so I need to resign myself to the fact that they’re probably going to be around for a while.

I’ve got mixed feelings about Kelly & Christy. I loved that they were so genuinely touched and saddened by the poverty of the people in Cambodia. They were the only team who actually were aware of their surroundings and the humanity involved. On the other hand, I really disliked their mean (but funny) comments about Dallas looking like Teen Wolf with his spiky hair. I’m all about being snarky, but they did it in a mean and snobby way. These two are also not the sharpest knives in the knife block. Every week they are shown doing at least one ditsy thing. Last night it was showing up in the middle of the Detour to play basketball without going to the clue box first.

Toni & Dallas continue to quietly dominate this game. I think the other teams are underestimating them in a big way. I think Toni might even be underestimating herself. She says she can’t perform the physical tasks as well as the younger players, yet she does great in every physical competition they’ve attempted. I really like both of them. Even if Dallas does have a Teen Wolf thing going on. ;-)

Andrew & Dan are just pathetic. They weren’t eliminated last night – but really should have been. Unless there’s some stroke of complete dumb luck for them next week, there’s no way they’ll be around for much longer. We are due for a non-elimination round, though, so they’ve got that going for them. It’s only a matter of time, though. These two are probably the biggest disappointment for me this season. I had high hopes for them to be entertaining and smart. They’ve been neither.

Ty & Aja were really growing on me. They both seem super sweet and it’s nice to see a dating couple on the Race where the prospects look good for the future. Alas, they were too busy loving being together and not spending enough energy and motivation on the actual race, thereby getting themselves eliminated. At least Aja can console herself with the fact that Ty “would not trade her in for a Porsche or anything like that”. Aww, sweet.

Here’s the finish order:

  1. Nick & Starr
  2. Toni & Dallas
  3. Ken & Tina
  4. Kelly & Christy
  5. Terence & Sarah
  6. Andrew & Dan
  7. Ty & Aja

Biggest Loser Season 6 Episode 5

Written by: Kristine

this will be short because i am on vacation.

i can’t stand the blue team, most importantly I highly dislike Heba. She is just a jerk. I am sick of her complaining about having her husband sent home. Get over it. And than this week I wanted to strangle Vicky. She is not a nice person. She doesn’t even try. I don’t know how she was the biggest loser for her team.

i think the blue team is going to go downhill. they are all stubborn and are all so mean. well besides the other Amy, who I like.

So go black team. Please keep winning so the rest of the blue team will go home!

Go Tampa Bay!

Written by: David

Congrats to the Tamp Bay Rays for making it to the World Series for the first time in their history. What an amazing season. They went from dead last last season to the World Series, and the thing I like most is they did it the way the game should be played: solid pitching, consistent offense, and good defense.

I am all about the small market teams winning. I know everyone says it hurts the league as a whole, but I think that is stupid, and just shows how it has all become about money. Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought it was about winning, not about ratings. Also, being a fan of a small market team, I like to see them succeed.

It should be a good series too. Tampa Bay definitely has the momentum going in, but nobody expected either of these teams to get this far so I guess we will see what happens. Go Rays!

The Big Bang Theory – The Euclid Alternative

Written by: John

In the October 20th episode we find Sheldon in a dilemma. He can’t drive. And the bus will not allow him to lash himself to the seat with bungee cords.

‘Is there a ‘check the check engine light’? Oh boy!

Only Sheldon could play a game by himself, and still have the other person win!! And want to play again! Let alone find going over the speed bumps fun. Fun enough to warrant a giggle!

Of course until he goes over one on a vespa! Funniest vespa ride I’ve ever witnessed! And let’s not forget that pink helmet! Yowza!

A driving intervention. Only for Sheldon! And only Sheldon would make errand requests for a forced journey to the DMV!

Comparing himself to Albert Einstein. Again, only Sheldon!

When offered a free-no-test learners permit, Sheldon would of course hesitate to leave because he hadn’t had the desired length of time to correct the test questions. How else will the DMV learn?

Sheldon never ceases to amaze! How dare they tell him to shift the car into drive without him first putting his hypothetical seat belt on?! The nerve of some people!

“Click”

I think we all knew that Sheldon would be the worst driver in the world! He is a genius, but doesn’t know not to drive into a mall in a virtual driving simulator! At least he was considerate enough to apologize to all of the people he ran over and crashed into!

Picture it. Sheldon. A plaid, flannel, bath robe. And a baby blue shower cap. Priceless.

The thought of Sheldon intimidating, really anyone, is just incredible! And rather unbelievable! But hysterical!

I guess we all know what Sheldon is going to be for Halloween this year. Last year, The Doppler Effect. This year, Phantom of the Lab.

Behind The Scenes Of Fringe: The Cure!

Written by: Pete

Ever wonder what goes into to putting together one of those really gory scenes on Fringe? We’ve got a video clip of some behind the scenes action from the making of this coming week’s episode, titled “The Cure.” We’ve also got a few pictures to show you if you’re up for some minor spoilage.

In this week’s episode, there’s a girl with a mysterious condition that puts the people around her in jeopardy. You’ll get a better sense of what I’m referring to when you see the video below, which shows what went into the making of the diner scene.

Thank you, Cinema blend

Funniest Part of The Big Bang Theory – Sheldon

Written by: Nat

Originally I was going to write this blog post about the show in its entirety. But then I realized that the funniest part is Sheldon, so I am just going to blog about him!

In the October 13th episode he opened with the paper towel bit. ‘I might as well sneeze my hands dry’. Classic!

My favorite part about Sheldon is that it doesn’t even phase him that no one else around him really gives a crap about any of the things he whines about! And that he is still perfectly content with himself and his life!

The smile he kept giving was fantastic! Loved the Joker reference! At times, yes, it did look like he was about to kill Raj. But let me just go on the record saying that Raj is certainly no Batman!

And when Sheldon threatened to make a drum out of Raj’s skin I almost wept tears of laughter! And then he topped it off with that psychotic smile. You can’t make that crap up!

Let’s just talk about Sheldons wardrobe for a second. When he isn’t dressed up as a comic book character or someone from Star Trek he wears the same thing. Long sleeve shirt, under a more colorful t-shirt that has some sort of picture on it, usually a comic book character, and a pair of pants.

I’ll admit it. I am oddly attracted to Sheldon! And I have the feeling I am not the only one out there who is!

His weird eating habits would make going out on dinner dates difficult, however. I have the feeling I would find myself over-tipping our server in advance so that they didn’t do anything heinous to our food because of all of the odd requests Sheldon would make!

Look at me, acting like we’re dating! Silly me!

The irony of Sheldons cat being named Lucky is just amazing! Not even for the obvious reason that he was run over by a truck, and how unlucky that is. More amazing is the thought of how Sheldon would treat a pet cat.

I can just see him now. Running experiments on the unsuspecting kitty to see if a cat could survive living on Mars, or something outrageous like that! Poor Lucky.

And how Sheldon is it that his first thought after having a pet die, would be how to replace said pet with a better one? And training this new and improved pet to kill people with its mind!! Oh boy.

Resenting his sister for getting swimming lessons from their parents, when they wouldn’t provide him with the necessary tools to create a griffin! Poor kid. How did he survive such a deprived childhood?

Sheldon is the poster child of a realist. He of course deems it necessary to point out that their meeting new people could indeed kill them!

But he’s not insane, his mother had him tested!

Forever Strong

Written by: David

Being an alumnus of Highland High School in Salt Lake City, UT I would not consider myself worthy if I did not make at least a small plug for this great movie. I went and saw it and enjoyed every minute of it. It does not have the big budget glamour of Remember the Titans but it was every bit as good. The story was well done, and the rugby was excellent. I highly recommend this movie to anyone that enjoys a good sports movie, and even to anyone that just enjoys a good movie. If you would like to watch the trailer, or read more about it go to their website.
