I’m also confused since I don’t see Dancing with the Stars on my list above. I know season 10 of DWTS is happening sometime too. Maybe they haven’t announced a date yet.

Please let me know of other shows that are missing and I’ll update them. Thanks!

Hey, you left out the two best shows ever: Leverage and Castle

I’m so looking forward to American Idol returning!!

    2. # John commented on January 4th, 2010:

      Stevie,
I said it was imperfect. Do you know when those are premiering and I’ll add them to the list.

    3. # StevieCat commented on January 4th, 2010:

Sorry, it would appear the Castle’s second season already premiered in Sept 2009. I don’t know why I thought it was premiering in the winter. It’s on Monday night’s at 10:00 e.s.t. on ABC. So it would seem that I am not perfect either!!!! heh heh heh

The new season of Leverage premieres on January 13th at 10:00 p.m. on TNT.

    4. # John commented on January 4th, 2010:

I just checked the list and Leverage is on the list of premiers under 1/13. It’s a long list and easy to miss some of them. Might be nice if I listed the premier dates by Network.

      ok, so I’m a total idiot. :0)

Wow – John, just found this blog from a link in the other post. Out of the shows mentioned a

I am most looking forward to the Amazing Race (not counting DWTS), but I’ll also watch idol and (likely) Celebrity Apprentice.

abc.com says DWTS will return in the spring. No details.

The thing I am most looking forward to is not on the list, but then it is not an ongoing show but a one time thing. It’s “The Audition” documentary on PBS – a documentary about the most prestigious vocal competition for young opera singers in North America – Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. On my PBS station (wnet/thirteen also in HD, Southern NY state, Cablevision), it’ll be on January 20th at 9pm. Not sure about other areas.

      kitty,
Glad you found this blog. I think that this blog is going to pretty busy over the next couple weeks. Looks like I’m going to have some people cover American Idol on this blog. We’ll see how it goes.

I adore Amazing Race. It’s fantastic. Celebrity Apprentice has been pretty compelling the last couple seasons. A bunch of primadonnas.

The PBS show sounds really interesting. I’ll be keeping an eye out for it (and I’ll post it to PureAGT soon).

    8. # kitty commented on January 11th, 2010:

Now that I found it, I got to remember the URL.

Will try Celebrity Apprentice this season.

The other one I started to like is Shark Tank. Pretty entertaining.

    9. # John commented on January 11th, 2010:

Always nice to have new readers kitty;-)

Celebrity Apprentice has been pretty entertaining. Not a top 10 show, but pretty interesting to watch all the high strung people.

Shark Tank is one of my favorites. Too bad it looks like it’s cancelled.

    10. # kitty commented on January 21st, 2010:

      Hi John,
can’t believe Shark Tank was cancelled – wow…. One of the few shows I like.

So have you watched “The Audition” last night? I was curious about what you thought about the movie and the talent of the contestants.

    11. # John commented on January 21st, 2010:

      kitty,
Shark Tank hasn’t been officially cancelled yet. In fact, the numbers are up these last couple episodes. Plus, it’s cheap to create. So, it’s possible that it could get another season. That said, the move to Friday nights is usually a death nail. We’ll see. I LOVE that show as well. You should also check out http://www.inthesharktank.com It’s done by my friend who loves the show as well.

I didn’t get a chance to see “The Audition” last night. Was at scouts. I’ll look for a replay.

Well if you want to know what you missed, you can read what people who watched it thought here:
      http://www.pbs.org/wnet/gperf/episodes/gp-at-the-met-the-audition/preview-this-behind-the-scenes-documentary/913/

One other way to see it is to register for 7-day free met player trial at metopera web site:
      http://www.metoperafamily.org/met_player/index.aspx

Some comments from people who saw it:
“I couldn’t sleep last night and caught this documentary on PBS…I was mesmerized from the first look and I have not been able to stop thinking about it since then. You don’t have to love or even like opera to be enthralled by “The Audition” – it’s simply amazing.”

“I am not a huge opera fan but am so very glad that I watched The Audition – I was mesmerized – did not move for the entire 2 hours.”

“I joined this program 15 minutes in and could not take my eyes off it. Not a great fan of opera, (don’t know enough about it, I guess),but these young people were extraordinary. It was amazing (in relation to the blight of other competition shows where foolishness and ineptitude reign) to
      see this sheer talent!”

    13. # kitty commented on January 23rd, 2010:

Just to add: somebody commented on pbs.org, it may be shown again on February 6 at least in NY area: at noon on thirteen and at 3pm on channel 21. Not sure about your area.

I know I am being a bit too insistent about it, but if you watch it, you’ll understand why: it’s not just about opera and sheer talent of the contestants and the discrepancy between the exposure these incredibly talented people get vs the exposure of much-less-talented contestants in popular talent show. But it’s also about how a reality tv could be done. It’s not boring, it might lack the cheap entertainment of bad performances, nasty comments or screeming audiences, but it has plenty of drama, personalities, emotion and suspense.

      1. It filmed in a relality-tv with no commentators’ telling the story but just filmed action – both on and off stage.
      2. It’s not fake or staged like AGT or Idol. What you see is what is really happening.
      3. The stakes are very high. These people have worked for years, and their whole future may depend on 10 minutes. This is the competition which counts among its past finalists and winners many of the Met stars. You get a glimpse of how big the Met is and how daunting it looks from the stage.
      4. The talents are amazing. The personalities are diverse.
      5. You see the backstage rehearsal, comments, but you also hear contestants talking openly even about things like being overweight. You get a glimpse of real judges deliberations.

It’s just a really great movie, at least in my opinion.

    14. # John commented on January 23rd, 2010:

      kitty,
I’m definitely keeping it on my list of things to watch when it’s a slow TV night. I’ll be interested to see it.

    15. # kitty commented on January 24th, 2010:

      “…when it’s a slow TV night. …”
      You don’t have a DVR?

Well, January 7th, it’s going to be during the day rather than the evening. Other than that it’s likely not going to be rebroadcast for a very long while.

It’s your choice, of course, but IMHO it’s a really good movie, not just the one for the “slow night”. Better than idol or AGT, and 90% of stuff you see on TV. If you read the comments on PBS – lots of people who don’t even like opera want to buy the DVD. Do you see people lining up to buy AGT dvd?

Now it’s just a matter of opinion, of course….

    16. # John commented on January 24th, 2010:

      kitty,
Nope, no DVR. I’m far too cheap. Plus, I kind of like watching stuff live and enjoy doing stuff online during the commercials. I do watch a ton of stuff online though.

      AGT DVDs…now that’s funny.
