Live to Dance New York Contestants

Well, the premiere of Live to Dance won the ratings battle for that night with 10.2 million viewers. Not a bad start to the show. In fact, I think it’s quite good. I read that it didn’t do as well in the targeted demographic that advertisers really want, but I also don’t know of any (maybe there’s some exception somewhere) that has 10+ million viewers and gets cancelled. Anyway, we’ll be tracking the ratings as the season goes on so we can see what America thinks of Live to Dance.

On the second night of auditions for Live to Dance, we saw a wide variety of contestants. Here’s the list of Live to Dance Contestants at the New York auditions and how many Gold Stars they received:

I haven’t had time to make the list of Live to Dance music like I would have liked. However, we’re starting to get quite a bit of traffic to the site for Live to Dance, so if you know the music used for any of the contestants above, just let me know in the comments and I can update the list.

Live to Dance Contestants and Music

Tonight was the premiere of Live to Dance with Paula Abdul on CBS. I was a bit skeptical about the show, but I have to admit that I really really enjoyed it. I got dragged away in the middle by a phone call, but I’ll catch up with it online. The parts I saw were just fantastic.

I thought the dancing was great and the mix of dances, dance group size and talent level made it really entertaining. The judges were good, not great. At least they weren’t annoying me too much. Sometimes the pace to get to the judges was a bit slow too. Although, I do like that they just flash the scores all at once. They don’t agonize as each judge gives their score.

Andrew Gunsberg as host felt a little messed up to me. He had a few funny moments, but a part of me was upset that once again some guy with an accent that no one knows is hosting the show again. Ok, if he had the legs and accent of Cat Deeley, I might forgive him, but he doesn’t. Is America really that starving for host talent?

Ok, now for the breakdown of the auditions from Live to Dance 2011 week 1, day 1: the Live to Dance Los Angeles auditons (the last number is how many Gold Stars they got):

As I’ve done previously on Dancing with the Stars and So You Think You Can Dance, I’m going to try and get together a list of music for Live to Dance. So, if you know any of the music from tonight’s episode of Live to Dance, let me know in the comments. I’ll collect it all and do a post listing the Live to Dance music for everyone to enjoy.

Live to Dance with Paula Abdul

CBS announced today the host and panel of experts for the new reality-competition series, LIVE TO DANCE with Paula Abdul. Executive producer, lead expert and mentor Paula Abdul will be joined by host Andrew Günsberg and fellow experts, choreographer Travis Payne and singer/dancer Kimberly Wyatt.

Obviously, since I’m a huge fan of So You Think You Can Dance, I’m interested to see how well the show Live to Dance with Paula Abdul will do on Fox.

I love most dance shows so I’m quite sure that I’ll enjoy this show. Unless it turns out like that terrible international dance show that Nigel put together (Superstars of Dance?).

The funny thing is that this really feels similar to how X Factor has gone at American Idol. The similarities between how Live to Dance is going at SYTYCD is remarkable. For example, they open up the format so that solo or group performances are allowed. This is going to be interesting to watch. Only problem is that they have Paula and not Simon. Simon is the ratings draw. I don’t think Paula is.

Either way, I love that there’s more dance on TV. Let’s just hope it doesn’t saturate America with too much dance so all the shows get cancelled.
