Nigel Lythgoe Talks About New Dance Show Olympics

Written by: John

Check out this brief interview of Nigel Lythgoe where he talks about his new project. Nigel describes his new dance show as basically a dance Olympics with dancers from all over the world and judges from all over the world also. Judges would only get to score those dancers that weren’t from their country. Sounds like it could be really interesting or really lame depending on how well the show is produced. Plus, I hope Nigel spends enough time telling the back stories of the dancers since that’s just as interesting or more interesting than the judges talking about the scores. He’s mentioned something similar on So You Think You Can Dance before and I hope he sticks with that thought.

Check out the interview:

A Huge Thank You to All the Something for Nothing Readers

Written by: John

I just wanted to take a moment to say a big Thank You to all those who read Something for Nothing. Nothing could make me happier than when I see a search on Google like this one. That means I’m offering something of value to the world and that makes me happy.

This SYTYCD, ABDC and Nashville Star summer season, this blog has set traffic records that have blown me away. It amazes me how many people have click through to read what’s been written on this blog. This blog started on a whim and has grown into a bit of a passion for me. However, I haven’t done it alone. This summer I brought on an incredible writer named Rocky. Not only has she written some incredible posts, but she’s also given me a lot of motivation to take this blog to the next level.

This Fall I’m planning to really take this blog to the next level by creating a TV blog network. I plan on starting out small and growing it organically. I’m always looking for people that are passionate about a TV show and interested in writing about it. If you are, then leave a comment on this post and I’ll get in touch with you.

Thanks to the hundreds of thousands of readers of this blog. You make this fun and interesting. I hope you’ll continue coming back, comment more and stay with me as I expand this blog like you haven’t seen before.

Thanks,
John Lynn
Editor, Something for Nothing

Nigel Leaving American Idol to Focus on So You Think You Can Dance

Written by: John

I just read a report that Nigel is leaving American Idol to focus on SYTYCD and a new venture with Simon Fuller. Here’s a quote from Nigel:

Due to the huge success of ‘So You Think You Can Dance,’ my summer will be taken up by travels to South Africa, Australia and Canada to work on local versions of the show. I will step back from my day-to-day producing work on ‘American Idol’ and will be devoting my time to a new venture with Simon Fuller. I have very much enjoyed my personal and professional relationship with Simon. He is without doubt, a man of vision, and I look forward to partnering with him on new and exciting challenges in all forms of entertainment.

I wonder what Nigel’s new venture with Simon Fuller is. The trips around the world to see various dancing would be an amazing experience.

Summer 2008 Reality TV Season Premiers

Written by: John

Yesterday my wife told me that there was nothing to watch on TV, because all the TV shows that we liked were ending their seasons. I retorted that So You Think You Can Dance and America’s Got Talent would be starting up soon. Today I went online to check when season 4 of So You Think You Can Dance would start. Unfortunately, I was a little off on my dates. They are planning the Two Hour Season Premiere, Thursday May 22 8/7c. Farther away than I thought it would be. Oh well, we’ll find something to do in the mean time.

Looks like America’s Got Talent is even farther away “NBC has announced America’s Got Talent’s third season will premiere with a two-hour broadcast on Tuesday, June 24 at 9PM ET/PT.”

A few other summer season premiers:
Last Comic Standing’s sixth season will premiere Thursday, May 22 at 9:30PM ET/PT
Nashville Star’s sixth season will debut Monday, June 9 at 9:30PM ET/PT – I’m so glad that this is on NBC now and off of cable. I really love this show and with NBC resources it should be that much better.
Celebrity Circus will premiere Wednesday, June 11 at 9PM ET/PT – I don’t know much details about this, but the title sounds pretty interesting.
The Baby Borrowers will debut Wednesday, June 25 at 8PM ET/PT – Tell you what, I won’t let you borrow my babies, you can just have them.

I also read that The Amazing Race 13 is filming. I can’t wait!

So You Think You Can Dance, Rockstar Supernova, The One, America’s Got Talent All in One Night

Written by: John

If you are like I and have been watching way too much reality TV you would have noticed that last night all of the following shows were aired: So You Think You Can Dance, Rockstar Supernova, The One – Making a Music Star, and America’s Got Talent.

I think each of these on its own would be quite entertaining shows I wonder why Monday nights are so boring as far as shows go and last night was so chock full of shows. Saturday night is another boring night. At least they could replay these shows so we could see the ones we missed. However, I think reality shows just aren’t as good when they aren’t live.

Well, regardless I had to pick my order of channel flipping amongst all the reality shows and so here’s the order of shows that I liked with a little review:
So You Think You Can Dance – This is by far the best of the reality shows. You can see many of my previous posts on So You Think You Can Dance

America’s Got Talent – Taylor Ware and The Millers harmonic is still my favorite after 3 semifinals. However, I think that rappin’ granny is one of the funniest. Although I think rapping granny should have been a people’s choice and not the judge’s choice.

The One – Making a Music Star – This is a pretty decent show. It seems like there is a little too much drama and I’m not that excited about the judges. However, I think the performances are interesting and they do a good job keeping the suspense interesting.

Rockstar Supernova – You can see my review of Rockstar Supernova

Well, I’m not sure if this blog is going to become a reality blog mixed with a bunch of technology, but I kind of like how my blog ebbs and flow according to what interests me at the moment. I’m still not sure why more people haven’t commented on my site.

I guess everyone agrees with my opinions.
