Celtic Woman on PBS

Written by: John

I’ll admit that I’ve been watching a ton of PBS lately and enjoying so many of their late night programs. Well, tonight the introduced me to a group I’d never seen before. The program was called Celtic Woman. I really enjoyed the performance, the music, and the pure entertainment value of the show.

I found my favorite video of Celtic Woman on Youtube where they sing You Raise me UpCeltic Woman - Celtic Woman - You Raise Me Up(Download the MP3 of Celtic Woman on AmazonBuy Celtic Woman CD on Amazon). This video is a little bit different than the one they showed on PBS, but the arrangement of the song is the same. In fact, I think I like the following video even better than what they showed on PBS:

I really look forward to seeing the Celtic Woman performance again in the future.

The Visitor – Music and Richard Jenkins’ Oscar Nomination

Written by: John

The Oscars are upon us. I must admit that I’m not a very big fan of all these awards shows. There are far too many and now they are just all mixed together. I never really remember which one is which. However, they have become amazing TV productions that are fun to watch. I especially enjoy flipping to these shows during commercials for other shows, but I digress.

2009 Oscar Nominees Luncheon

I recently was sent an email talking about the Oscar nomination for actor in a leading role of Richard Jenkins. Richard Jenkins really was fantastic in The Visitor and I’m glad to see he was nominated for an Oscar. I’m not sure he’s going to win, but the show was fantastic and Richard Jenkins did a wonderful job portraying the character.

Of course, the best part of The Visitor was actually the music. Check out the music from The Visitor and you’ll see what I mean:

Superstars of Dance Ballerina Maria Kochetkova on Twitter

Written by: John

I’m always interested to see the ways people we love on TV are using technology. I recently came across the ballerina on Superstars of Dance, Maria Kochetkova, on twitter. If you don’t know what Twitter is you should start playing with it. It’s easy to use and kind of awkward at first, but once you start following a few interesting people you’ll fall in love. You can follow the Pure TV Blog network on Twitter as well.

If you’re not into Twitter, you can follow Maria Kochetkova’s blog. It’s kind of fun seeing what a principal dancer for the San Francisco ballet is saying and doing. Plus, lots of good links to videos.

Of course, if you don’t know who Maria Kochetkova is, you can check out this beautiful ballerina video:

I wonder if Maria Kochetkova would do an interview for this blog so we could learn more about her and her time on the show. I’ll send her a tweet and see what she says.

Premiere of Superstars of Dance

Written by: John

In about an hour I’ll be sitting down to enjoy the premier of Superstars of Dance. I really can’t wait to see what Nigel Lythgoe has planned since leaving American Idol. The previews have looked amazing and I love the work that Nigel Lythgoe has done on So You Think You Can Dance, so I’m excited to see what he’s going to do with the broadening of what we consider dance.

Check out this video of the Superstars of Dance hosts, Michael Flatley and Susie Castillo, and Executive Producer Nigel Lythgoe explains a little bit more about what I’ll see on Superstars of Dance.

I love the idea that there’s really 4 competitions going on at once. Basically Superstars of Dance brings together dancers from 8 countries each doing a solo, duet, and group dance. Each category of dance competes against each other and then each country competes against each other in the overall score.

Let’s hope that Nigel does a good job covering the scores of the various dancers. Otherwise, following 4 competitions will just be confusing and not very good television.

Here’s a nice set of video interviews with the various Superstars of Dance contestants:

As always, I’ll be doing my best to compile a list of the various music used on Superstars of Dance. I have a feeling that it will be difficult to compile, but I’ll do the best I can. If you’re from one of the 8 countries and know the music from your country that was used on Superstars of Dance, then let me know and I’ll add it to my Superstars of Dance music.

Nigel Lythgoe Talks About New Dance Show Olympics

Written by: John

Check out this brief interview of Nigel Lythgoe where he talks about his new project. Nigel describes his new dance show as basically a dance Olympics with dancers from all over the world and judges from all over the world also. Judges would only get to score those dancers that weren’t from their country. Sounds like it could be really interesting or really lame depending on how well the show is produced. Plus, I hope Nigel spends enough time telling the back stories of the dancers since that’s just as interesting or more interesting than the judges talking about the scores. He’s mentioned something similar on So You Think You Can Dance before and I hope he sticks with that thought.

Check out the interview:

Hawaii North Shore JabbaWockeeZ

Written by: John

After covering the first season of America’s Best Dance Crew, it was really fun when one of the boys I taught in church sent me the following video of some North Shore boys doing a dance in the style of JabbaWockeez!!

Nice work. I wonder when America’s Best Dance Crew will be on the air again. My guess is that we’ll have to wait for summer.
