My Super Sweet 16 Presents: Exiled

Written by: Rocky

There’s a new reality show on MTV called My Super Sweet 16 Presents: Exiled. This is a spinoff of My Super Sweet 16, which showcases self-indulgent brats who demand that their parents spend hundreds of thousands of dollars for a sweet sixteen birthday party they hope will buy impress friends. And the parents who foolishly do it.

The premise for Exiled is to take eight spoiled young adults and drop them in the middle of nowhere to experience life in third world conditions; for one week. Yeah, one week. Their parents who will continue to spoil them, actually think this will teach them to value what they have and become better human beings. I suspect that deep down these parents don’t really think their kids need to change. They just want them to realize how awesome their parents are for being able to give them whatever they want.

Each episode will feature one teen from a past show of My Super Sweet 16. There are a total of seven females and one male.

Pros: The teens, as well as teen viewers, will have an eye opening look at life in third world countries. I’m hoping that some will be inspired to do something productive with their lives that will contribute to a change in the world.

Cons: The way the show is promoted. Its aim is to appeal to self-absorbed people who enjoy seeing other, more fortunate, self-absorbed people get their comeuppance.

Watching My Super Sweet 16 can give us a glimpse of “the good life.” Amidst the demanding divas and epic meltdowns that lead up to insanely over-the-top teenage birthday bashes, we get a look at the posh lives of wealthy families. And while we take that often envious look at how the other half lives, how many of us sit there wishing that these spoiled teens could be slapped with a serious dose of reality?
