PureDWTS Season 22 Cast Rumors: Trisha Paytas…Possible Hint, or Just a Wannabe?

It’s still pretty damn early for the season 22 rumor mill to be churning out anything really significant, but this post from YouTube personality Trisha Paytas on Instagram yesterday gave me pause:

getting my workout in with @seanvanderwilt #DWTS #2016

A video posted by trishapaytas (@trishapaytas) on

My gut tells me she’s probably either just joking or is subtly trying to express interest in being on the show, but given that DWTS kinda branched out last season by tapping a Vine star like Hayes – is it really too far-fetched to assume that they might try to cast a YouTube personality within the next few seasons? Or that they might have reached out to a few already? Trisha’s been around for awhile, and has a large following – plus she’s put out some music on iTunes (and some accompanying music videos, which is most likely what she was rehearsing for here), has published several books, and has appeared on shows like America’s Got Talent, Dr. Phil, and My Strange Addiction…so she’s got a lot of irons in the fire.

That being said – the one potential caveat I can see with her in particular is that she’s refreshingly (at least in my opinion) open about her sex life, and the fact that she used to work in the sex industry.  Might not really jive well with the more conservative-leaning audience of DWTS.  Thoughts?

Would You Support A YouTube Sensation To Dance On Dancing With The Stars?

At John’s request in the new Dancing With The Stars Season 14 Casting Suggestion post, here is YouTube sensation, iJustine. You might remember that she and her fans massively campaigned for her to dance on Dancing With The Stars in Season 12 as you can see from the video below. I remember a lot of fans campaigning for her at twitter last season as well.

She can bust some moves too. Below is a recent video of her dancing around Pittsburgh during Thanksgiving.

The question remains….if iJustine is still interested in dancing on the show (as one commenter hopes), can a YouTube sensation like iJustine (with over 1,299,000+ fans following her) be considered a true “star”? Would you support or not support iJustine’s chances to dance?

I think I’d support her (and to dance with Derek too, lol). I hate to say it (and I didn’t always feel this way)…but, reality stars and YouTube sensations are the sign of our times and the current pop culture.

John’s Comments: I’m sure I’m a bit biased when it comes to iJustine, but she’s a bit more than a YouTube sensation. She’s pretty popular around tech circles particularly for her lifecasting and use of new media. Sure, it definitely stretches the definition of Star, but her 1.3+ million twitter followers says something. Plus, she’s not a YouTube sensation like other one hit wonders. Her weakest videos have a few hundred thousand views.

I actually don’t think that DWTS will pick up someone like iJustine for the show, because many people won’t understand that she’s a star and that could hurt the image of the show. However, she’s likely more widely known than a number of other “stars” that have been on the show.

Personally, I’m all for more Hot Blondes on DWTS, so I support her being on the show. Plus, I love the fact that she made a video of her dancing to basically capitalize on all her fans that want her on DWTS. I wonder what creative videos/social media methods she’d use to get people voting if she were on DWTS. Would be really fun to watch.
